THE MARKET IN BRIEF :

- During November, the relative stability of prices observed during the month of October began to give way to a downward trend because of the increasing marketing of local grains. Maize and rice are the first cereals to enter the market, sorghum and millet are expected to arrive massively in the coming weeks;
- Good crop forecasting in previous months has been somewhat disrupted by climatic variations, including early rainfall stop in late September and flooding in parts. However, overall cereal production in the subregion is expected to grow for rice, maize and sorghum;
- Only the production of millet seems to have been strongly impacted by the early halt of the rains. In addition, attacks by groups of grain-eating birds on the millet crops of the Sahelian zone have impacted the expected yields. Millet production could therefore decline slightly this year.
- Worldwide, in November, cereal harvesting is still ongoing in the Northern hemisphere. World rice production is expected to increase notably. The same is true for world maize production.
