Market situation in a nutshell:

During the month of October 2020, we started to observe in some markets the new cereal harvests more than in September. These new harvests, coupled with the destocking of residual stocks and imports, made it possible to stabilize prices, particularly on the rice and millet markets. On the other hand, in the monotored sorghum markets, slight increases were still noted, indicating that the lean season is prolonged.

These increases have taken place in some countries where there has been a decrease in traders' stocks, a decline in import flows, while the new crops are not yet marketed.

By country and by speculation, the trends are as follows:

For rice: The trend has been towards price stability in all the markets of the countries monitored (Senegal, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Burkina, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger)

For maize: While price stability was observed in Senegal, Ghana, Togo, and Benin, it was rather price reductions that had been noted in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina, while Niger and Guinea recorded slight price increases in their markets.

For millet: The trend has been towards stability in all the markets of the countries monitored (Senegal, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Burkina, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger)

For sorghum: With the exception of Niger where slight price increases were noted, the trend has been towards price stability in the markets of Senegal
